Merry Christmas!

The Evangelical’s may have lost the House and the Senate, but last week they made an important gain in the retail sector.

That’s because a nationwide store chain said that, in bowing to pressure from groups like the American Family Association and the Catholic League, it would reverse its past “Happy Holidays” greeting policy and once again welcome its November-thru-December customers with a hearty “Merry Christmas!”

“We’re not afraid to use the term ‘Merry Christmas,’” said a company spokeswoman. “We’ll use it early and we’ll use it often.”

So, WHICH retailer just made the switch?

A. Wal-Mart
B. Target
C. Toys ’R Us
D. Costco

ANSWER
A. Wal-Mart, which will also include the word “Christmas” in its TV ads, promises to play Christmas carols throughout their stores, and changed the name of its “The Holiday Shop” department to “The Christmas Shop.” Somewhere, Jesus must be smiling — probably as He’s digging around in His pocket for a credit card to buy that 8-foot blowing plastic lawn snow globe of Frosty frolicking with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
