Know Your Candidates: A Constitutional Amendment Against Divorce?

Welcome to another installment in our continuing series, “Know Your Candidates,” where we look at the antics of various candidates from the Religious Right.

Today we’re examining a Republican congressman facing a tough re-election campaign by another Godless Democrat. So, just how Holier Than Though is our endangered congressman?

He not only famously said in a congressional debate, “like a moth to a flame, the Democrats can’t help themselves when it comes to denigrating and demonizing Christians,” but he ALSO called marriage “the picture of Christian salvation” and described divorce as being just as dangerous as gay marriage.

So, just who is this divorce-phobic Republican Congressman?

B: Indiana Rep. John Hostettler, who is such a Warrior for Christ that he once was caught trying to board a jet in Louisville carrying a loaded 9-millimeter pistol.

But divorce? Now that’s a sin!

Hostettler now finds himself far behind Democratic candidate and Vanderburgh County Sheriff Brad Ellsworth in a battle for re-election with less than a week before the election.
